LIFELINE EXPRESS
The Lifeline express or Jeevan Rekha express is world's first hospital train run by Impact India Foundation. It was developed in collaboration with Indian Railways and health ministry and was funded by Impact UK, International charitable sources, India corporate houses and individuals. It was started on 16 July 1991. This has benefited over 600000 rural Indians. The lifeline express was started to provide on the spot diagnostic, medical and advanced surgical treatment for preventive and curative interventions for disabled adults and children. It is out reach program for inaccessible rural areas where medical services are not available, traveling via Indian Railways. This express train is formed of specially designed air-conditioned coaches. The train has two surgical operation theaters with other facilities in different coaches. This express consists of five coaches.
The lifeline express provides a number of medical services including:-
- Orthopedic surgical intervention for correction of handicap and restoration of movement, especially those as a result of polio, congenital deformity like club foot & cerebral palsy.
- Ophthalmological procedures and interventions, e.g. cataract surgery including phaco method and power glasses distribution after establishing the need of partially blind patients.
- Surgical interventions for conductive deformity of middle ear for restoration of hearing & audiometry for restoring hearing of sensory deaf patients.
- Plastic Surgical correction of Cleft Lip and post burn contractures.
- Epilepsy - Screening and treatment clinic run by an Epileptologist (Neurologist) along with counseling and education about epilepsy given by Epilepsy counselors.
- Counseling and referral services.
- Liaison with local health authorities and follow-up.
- Immunizations and other preventive measures.
- Nutritional assessment and services.
- Promotion of Health awareness among the deprived in the neglected rural and semi-urban areas.
- Providing training to medical and allied-health professionals and other voluntary personnel in surgical procedures, medical and health issues for work in unique field situations.
RORO(Roll On/Roll Off)
RORO means Roll On/Roll Off, where loaded trucks are directly carried by railways wagons to their destinations. Konkan railways passes through tough terrains of India. The Konkan railways came with the concept of RORO, where loaded trucks are moved on wagons and are travelled by trains. This has helped in saving fuels, decrease in wear and tear of trucks, relief to drivers of driving in extreme conditions, can reach faster to a specified destination. This also helps in decongestion of roads and lowering of pollution. This concept has been beneficial for both truck operators and Konkan railways.
DECCAN QUEEN
Deccan Queen is a passenger train (superfast express)that connects Mumbai and Pune. Its first service started in the year 1930 i.e. 87 years ago. Its current operator is the central railways. The journey time is almost 3hours 10minutes. The Deccan Queen is hauled by WCAM 2P/3 locomotive. It operates at a speed of 60kmph (37mph) considering stops into consideration. Deccan Queen is also one of the most favorite trains among rail fans. Every year on 1st June its regular pass holders, rail fans and railway authorities celebrate its birthday. Deccan Queen has entered its 87th year of service on 1st June 2016. Its actually covers a distance of 192.2km (119.4mi) from Mumbai CST to Pune. The train only has seating arrangement i.e it consists of AC chair car, Chair car, General compartments.
SAMPARK KRANTI
Sampark Kranti express trains are a series of super fast trains operated by Indian Railways providing quick connectivity to the national capital, New Delhi. The words Sampark and Kranti are from Sanskrit. Sampark means connect and Kranti means revolution. The Sampark Kranti trains operate at a slower average speeds than Rajdhani and Shatabdi series of trains, there operating speeds are 110kmph (68mph).These trains are provided to give high speed access at lower traveling costs. Sampark Kranti trains charges the same fare as regular/superfast trains on the rail network and do not provide any special facilities. The trains aims at reducing travel time without compromising on passenger comfort. Initially eighteen trains were introduced and later their count was increased.
GARIB RATH
Garib Rath literally means poor peoples chariot. This is a air conditioned train started by Indian Railways to provide subsidized price air conditioned long distance travel to passengers. The fares are less than two third of the fares for air conditioned class on other trains. The maximum speed of this is 130kmph. It is significantly slower than the other high speed trains. Only seating and three tier accommodation is provided in Garib Rath trains. It was launched in the year 2005. There are almost 26 train services of this kind active in Indian Railway network. The maiden journey of this kind of train started from Saharsa (Bihar) to Amritsar (Punjab). In Garib Rath trains no free bedding or food is provided. In India Garib Rath express is one of the best trains, its popular for its timing and comfort.
JAN SHATABDI
Jan Shatabdi is a more affordable variety of the Shatabdi express which has both AC and non-AC accommodation. The word "JAN" refers to the common people. It used to have on board catering service but later it was removed. Hill Queen Express is only meter gauge track Jan Shatabdi in India, Which runs between Lumding to Lower Haflong and covers a distance of 100km in 3hrs and 45 minutes. All other Jan Shatabdi express runs on broad gauge tracks. Jan Shatabdi services started on the year 2003.There are almost 20 Jan Shatabdi services operated by the Indian Railways. Jan Shatabdi express consists of AC chair car and second class seating for accommodation. Different classes of locomotives are used for hauling the Jan Shatabdi trains. Operating speed of Jan Shatabdi express are 110kmph (6mph) which is the maximum speed, at an average these trains run at a speed of 55kmph (35mph).
YUVA EXPRESS
Yuva express series of trains were introduced together with Duronto express in the financial year 2009-10. They were introduced to provide air conditioned low cost travel to the youth of the country. Yuva express runs between Howrah and Mumbai. It was initially intended to run as point to point service however soon commercial stops were introduced soon. Sixty percent of the seats are reserved for students, low income groups and people belonging to age group 18-45yrs. To avail this facility, a traveler must have an age/income proof certificate. The train have not been particularly good success and initial Howrah and Mumbai Yuva express train remains only train running under the Yuva class. Earlier there were only chair cars but later AC 2 tier and AC 3 tier were added. Generally in the 2 Yuva expresses there are 7-8 chair cars coaches and 5-6 AC 3 tier coaches and 2-3 AC 2 tier coaches.
HUMSAFAR EXPRESS
Humsafar express are completely 3-tier AC sleeper trains designed by Indian Railways, these are going to be overnight trains. First service of Humsafar express started from Gorakhpur to Anand Vihar on 16th December 2016. These trains will feature side curtains like 2 AC coaches. LED screen display to show information about stations and train speeds. These will feature vending machines for tea, coffee and milk, charging ports, bio-toilets in compartments. It will feature safety measures such as smoke alarms and fire extinguisher. Exterior of the coaches will have a futuristic look with the use of vinyl sheets. The train also features a heating chamber as well as refrigerating box. There are about 16 trains of this class operated by the Indian Railways. The berths will be more comfortable than the pervious 3- tier AC sleeper coaches
TEJAS EXPRESS
Tejas express will be a semi high speed train of the Indian Railways to be introduced with modern on board facilities. Tejas express is set to roll out in this year. The coaches are manufactured at Rail Coach Factory, Kapurthala. The newly designed coaches are capable of running at speeds of 200kmph (120mph) but due to constraints related to rail tracks these coaches will run at a speed of 160kmph (99mph). The first rake comprising of 19 coaches including sixteen non-executive and two executive chair cars besides one power car. Coaches will have bio-vacuum toilets, water level indicators, tap sensors, hand dryers, integrated braille displays, LED TV for each passenger with phone sockets, local cuisine, celebrity chef menu, Wi-Fi, tea and coffee vending machine, magazines, snack table, CCTV cameras, fire and smoke detection and suppression system. The fares will be 20% to 30% more than Shatabdi fares. The three routes planned for Tejas express are: Anand-Vihar Terminal-Lucknow Junction, Delhi-Chandigarh, Mumbai CST-Karmali.
