                                                     DEMU-Diesel Electric Multiple Unit
         In a diesel -electric multiple unit a diesel engine drives an electrical generator or an alternator which produces electrical energy.The generated current is fed to the traction motors on the wheels.This falls into the category of DMU(Diesel Multiple Units).Because of its high acceleration it is used for local runs i.e when the stations are closer.There are many countries which uses DMU services.Diesel Multiple Units are classified according to their transmission type: Diesel-Electric(DEMU),Diesel-Mechanical(DMMU),Diesel-Hydraulic(DHMU).

MEMU-Mainline Electric Multiple Unit.
                             MEMU is a commuter rail system in India operated by Indian Railways for semi urban and rural areas. MEMU operates on AC drawn from overhead cables. MEMU falls in the category of EMU trains which  has fast acceleration and  pollution free operation. M8 is an EMU railroad car used in Port Chester,New York. SWT class 444 and class 450 are another EMU units in London Waterloo bound service. Z-20500 is a type of EMU used in France.
