WAM-4 is a very successful class of 25Kv ac electric locomotives used in India . They use the same power bogies as the successful WDM-2 class of diesel-electric locomotives. The WAM-4 locomotive is still among the most heavily used electric locomotive of Indian Railways. A single WAM-4 can generally haul upto 24 coach passenger rake. This locomotive class has been seen in many variations, as a lot of workshops and sheds have carried out modifications of their own.                                           
                                                                     WAM-4 was built by Chittaranjan Locomotive Works (CLW) during the years 1970-1983. This locomotive has the following nicknames- Ananth, Rajatabha, Surubhi, Navchetna. WAM-4 has maximum speeds of 110kmph(68mph) and 135kmph(84mph). The variations in speed is due to the difference  in settings of the traction motors used in this locomotive. Some of the sheds holding this loco are Arakkonam, Bhilai, Tatanagar, Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Vadodara.
