WCAM-3 is the third in the series of WCAM locomotives. These are specifically designed for use in central railways in the ghat section towards Pune. The dual-voltage WCAM series locomotive haul intercity trains out of Mumbai DC suburban   region on central railways which is on a 1500V DC overhead system as opposed to other parts of India which have 25000V DC overhead. These upgraded dual-traction models deliver 4600hp in DC mode and 5000hp in AC mode and were jointly developed by RDSO and BHEL in 1997. Maximum speed of this is 105kmph(65mph) in DC mode and 120kmph(75mph) in AC mode. A total of 53 locomotives of this kind are produced till date. WCAM-3 is used for hauling the trains Deccan Queen, Tapovan Express, Panchavati Express, Mahalaxmi Express, Pune-Nagpur Express.
