The class WDM-3A is Indian Railways work horse diesel locomotive. Since 1993, it has been manufactured in India by Diesel Locomotive Works (DLW), Varanasi. The WDM-3A is a variant of the original WDM-2C. These units have been retrofitted with dual brakes, in addition to air and vacuum brakes. The WDM-3A locos have a maximum speed of 120kmph (75mph). This loco is now widely used across India for long distance passenger trains due to its ruggedness and high tractive loads and acceleration. The first one of its kind was delivered on 22nd August, 1994, it was then WDM-2C. More than 150 locos were produced until 1998. It uses a 16 cylinder 4 stroke turbo diesel engine which can give a power output of 3100hp. The WDM-3A also laid the foundation for the remaining WDM-3x series. All the dimensions of WDM-3A are identical to that of WDM-2 except for the baldies.
